Last week, I attended ENGAGE!16, which was hosted at The Breakers in West Palm Beach. Produced by Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce and held at the world’s top resorts three times a year, the Engage summits have brought together the best of the best of the luxury event & wedding professionals for the past 8 years.
When I decided to attend Engage, it wasn’t necessary to become best friends with event celebrities such as Mindy Weiss, Marcy Blum or Preston Bailey. To be perfectly honest, I’m not a fanatic type. Don’t get me wrong, while I truly respect the talent and professional achievements of these headliners, I am also very much aware that what led them to the top is their devotion to the industry, their determination, their perspiration and their ability to seize opportunities.
Like so many other event professionals, I flew to Florida because I wanted to connect with creative minds, center myself and be inspired. What I found that I didn’t necessarily expect was a sense of comradeship and the feeling to belong to an amazing and powerful community. I came home refreshed and invigorated with love and even more passion for my job.
The words risk, fear, courage, and bravery were heard often during these 3 days and really resonated with me. Lynn Easton’s story who didn’t hesitate to risk her home to pursue her dream and grow her business, Carley Roney’s conviction that the power of community starts with your own team, Cindy Novotny and Sean Low’s motivational speech fueled me with all the energy I needed to face adversity in the upcoming months without shrinking away. Until the next Engage event.
Because let’s face it, Engage is an intoxicating and powerful event. The magic, the incredible parties orchestrated to perfection, the attention to details, the delicious food, the quality of entertainment, the awesome gifts, the friends, the talent… I can’t wait to experience it all over again.
